developing F = m*a through newtons eyes
people always wondered why the things happened how they happened
what was it before him: people memorized qualitative phenomenas, they thought were seperate:
- if you let something go, it falls down
- the moon and sun and stars circle around the earth
- if you push something enough, it moves
- the bigger the thing you push, the more you have to push
- there was no reason for why a stone fell or why smoke rose, people just knew and didnt question it
using mathematics as the fertile soil (assigning numbers to the world) + the theory that mass attracts each other
especially, it was a breakthrough to realize that one single law, one root gravity (mass attracts mass) had its effect in so many different phenomenas
looking at different phenomenas and unifying them and seeing, wait, these phenomenas are actually all the same
what he ebbed the way for
newtons brilliance:
- realizing that its basically all the same
- using math, to describe the world
Newtons promise
if we give numbers to objects and identify
we can understand the phenomena of the world
